About Smyrna

Living in Smyrna

Smyrna sits in northern Rutherford County along Interstate 24, roughly 25 miles from downtown Nashville. It grew up around Sewart Air Force Base, now the Smyrna Airport, and today it is best known as the home of Nissan's Smyrna assembly plant, one of the largest employers in Middle Tennessee.

For home buyers, Smyrna offers a shorter Nashville commute than Murfreesboro, access to J. Percy Priest Lake on its northern edge, and a mix of established neighborhoods and newer subdivisions at prices that are often below Davidson County.

Multiple I-24 exits and a shorter commute than Murfreesboro.

Major employer

Nissan's Smyrna plant and the airport industrial corridor.

Percy Priest Lake

Boating, fishing and beaches on the town's north side.

Range of homes

From 1970s ranches to new communities off Sam Ridley Parkway.

Real estate market

Smyrna's housing stock ranges from 1970s and 1980s ranches near the old base to large newer communities off Sam Ridley Parkway, Rocky Fork Road and Nissan Drive. Townhomes near the parkway's retail corridor offer lower-maintenance options, and lakeside and larger-lot homes can be found toward Percy Priest.

Schools and education

Smyrna is served by Rutherford County Schools, including Smyrna High School and Stewarts Creek High School, with several elementary and middle schools across town. Motlow State Community College operates a Smyrna campus, and MTSU is about 20 minutes south.

Things to do

Percy Priest Lake offers boating, fishing and swimming beaches minutes from most neighborhoods. The Sam Davis Home and Plantation is a well-preserved historic site, and the Smyrna Depot District has a growing set of restaurants and shops. Lee Victory Recreation Park and the Smyrna Outdoor Adventure Center round out the parks.

Location and commute

Smyrna sits directly on I-24 with multiple exits, making it one of the most convenient commutes in the county to Nashville, the airport and Antioch. Murfreesboro is about 15 minutes south, and La Vergne borders Smyrna to the north.
