About Christiana

Living in Christiana

Christiana is an unincorporated community in southern Rutherford County along US-231, between Murfreesboro and Shelbyville. The old railroad village gives the area its name, but most of today's Christiana is a mix of farmland, larger lots and new subdivisions that have followed Murfreesboro's growth south.

Buyers come here for newer homes at a lower price than inside the city, for acreage, and for a quieter setting that is still only about 15 minutes from the Murfreesboro square.

Newer homes, more land

New subdivisions and acreage at prices below the city.

Rockvale High zone

Christiana Elementary and Middle feed the newer Rockvale High.

15 minutes to Murfreesboro

US-231 straight to the square and I-24.

Open country

Farms, quiet roads and a small-town community center.

Real estate market

Christiana's market is a blend of new-construction neighborhoods along US-231 and Christiana Road, homes on one or more acres, and established farms. Prices often run below comparable homes inside Murfreesboro city limits, which has made the area popular with first-time buyers and families looking for space.

Schools and education

Christiana is served by Rutherford County Schools, including Christiana Elementary and Christiana Middle School. High school students in most of the area attend Rockvale High School, which opened in 2019 to serve the growing south county.

Things to do

The area is known for its open country, local farms and the Christiana community center on the site of the historic depot village. Barfield Crescent Park and the shopping and dining along Veterans Parkway are a short drive north, and the Shelbyville and Walking Horse country lie to the south.

Location and commute

US-231 runs straight into Murfreesboro and connects to I-24 at exit 81, roughly 20 minutes away. Shelbyville is about 15 minutes south. Nashville and the airport are generally 45 minutes to an hour.
